Remember the IQ tests which naively attempted to measure smarts with logic tests?
I came across this display of Military Patches via a link in an eMail from a military / police outfitter I buy from every so often. It’s quite apparent that the Infidel patch doesn’t belong.
While all the others are useful as Team Motivation Tools and potentially critical identification tags, the Infidel tag says something quite different.
It screams out “I am repugnant to your values, and prepared to flaunt it”.
It is a declarative challenge which says “I’m the guy some Muslim religious leaders tell you to hate, so what are you going to do about it?” It is the patch of the school yard bully, not the Modern American Military conscious of the cultural subtleties of modern warfare.
Overall we now have the best qualified fighting people in the history of our Military.
A good means of making them even better would be to retrain those who might have ordered this patch.
